If you have a teenager in your home I bet that by the time you read this post she or he has already visited and participated in social portals like My Space. If you are a parent, you might be concerned about the safety of your child. As wonderful place as MySpace is supposed to be, there are risks involved in your child having a profile there. Children and teenagers like to share their personal information like school they go to, names of teachers etc. There are those who are visiting MySpace only waiting for your child to give them this valuable piece of information and then using against him. Next, the world of MySpace can be cruel as well. People there insult each other, gossip etc. Finally, and even most importantly, people are very often not who they claim to be. With widespread anonymity everybody can be whoever he wants. A 41 year old man can pretend a 13 year old girl. It is as old as the internet.
