If you are using Internet Explorer as your main browser, you can significantly improve your performance if you know the shortcuts to some of the actions and if you know how to use them. Let me here quote a few examples of very useful shortcuts that can save you a lot of time while browsing:

  • F5 – is used to refresh a webpage.
  • Backspace – will take you to the previous page.
  • Ctrl+Enter – this combination will automatically write for you www and .com after you type an address (without www and .com).
  • Esc – is used to stop a page from refreshing.
  • Ctrl+W – this will close a browser window.
  • Ctrl+H – this will enable you to see your browsing history.
  • Ctrl+P – this will send a printing command to print the current webpage you are viewing.
  • Personally I don’t use all of the shortcuts, but a lot of them are useful and can increase your performance considerably.

    Google Trends for Websites

September 27th, 2008 EnhancedPixels Posted in Guide, Online, Regular Posts No Comments »

Websites are a crucial element of the World Wide Web and no wonder that webmasters like to look at trends and statistics associated with them. In order to compare different websites with each other you may want to visit Google Trends, as you will be able to see some pretty interesting information. First of all, you will be able to see the search volume of keywords, but most importantly, you will have access to data displaying daily unique visitors for many sites. This way you can compare two different websites and see which one is more popular. While I encourage you to use this tool, it doesn’t have as much data as other visitor tracking tools such as Alexa and that is why you shouldn’t only depend on Google Trends for traffic estimates.

Most people still do not know that their PCs can easily replace their TVs. Many people think that the internet is mainly about reading and browsing web pages. Since they like watching things, they think that only TV is the best solution for them. However, the truth is completely different. PCs are more and more often replacing traditional TVs. There are many videos on the internet that have high value and are not copyrighted. If you like watching news for example, you will find a lot of materials for free on the net for which you will not even have to pay. If you look for entertainment, you will find a lot of funny videos on YouTube for example-videos that you would never watch on your television. There is a lot more for video fans on the internet than currently it is on TV.

Your computer is another device that needs cleaning to maintain its maximum efficiency. Remember to clean it on a regular basis to prevent any possible damages that might occur. Let me here share with you on how I clean my PC:

    1. Before I clean my precious PC I always disconnect it from electricity. I make sure that all of the cables and connectors are removed from the back of my computer. It is only that way that me and my PC are safe while cleaning.
    2. Compressed air is very useful while cleaning a PC. Use it on your hardware maintaining a proper distance from your device.
    3. When it comes to cleaning of the outside of the computer, I use a slightly wet cloth and then I clean it again with paper towel to make it dry. Remember not to use wet cloths inside of your computer.
    4. If you eat near your computer like I do, remember to clean your keyboard regularly before it looks too bad.

September 22nd, 2008 EnhancedPixels Posted in Guide, Online, Regular Posts No Comments »

There are many services being offered, which promise to catch plagiarists, some of them are even free, but I would like to present you with a very simple method to catch plagiarists. First of all, the word plagiarist is derived from latin “kidnapper” it means that a person takes credit for someone else’s work. If you don’t want anyone else to take credit for your work you can use the Google Search engine in order to find if any of your articles are on other people’s websites. To do this select some parts of your articles and copy/paste them to Google. Look carefully at the search results to see what websites are listed here. Remember don’t make accusations before you make sure that someone indeed took your article.

Making transaction on the internet is nothing new, but scammers are not a new thing either. There are some ways to protect yourself from scammers, but you should never buy anything from someone you don’t trust. Here are some things which you may do:

  • Buy from established auctions like eBay and only from people who have a lot of positive feedback. Most of them would not be willing to lose their reputation in order to scam somebody once.
  • Do not use egold or other “junk” type of payment, but rather use PayPal which usually offers protection for the buyer.
  • Don’t buy anything really expensive from someone who doesn’t have good reputation.
  • As long as you adhere to the guidelines above, you shouldn’t have that many problems.

    Monopoly in the Browser Market

September 19th, 2008 EnhancedPixels Posted in Online, Regular Posts No Comments »

Microsoft for many years has been bundling his Internet Explorer browser with various Windows versions and as a result most people sue Internet Explorer. Does it mean that IE is superior? Not at all, actually in various tests it shows inferiority to Firefox and especially Opera which is really loaded with features. Unfortunately, they are not many users browsing with Opera, even though it is often considered the best browser on the market. As a matter of fact, most internet users might not have even heard about Opera. No wonder that some time ago Opera has presented the European Commission with an antitrust complaint over Microsoft’s dominance. It was requested that Microsoft be forced to unbundle its browser from Windows and this way allow other browsers to compete with IE.
